About Me

I was born and raised in a small town in Michigan but have lived in the South for most of my adult life.  I love to cook, bake, shop, and tweak my decor.  I was a stay-at-home mom for 7 years and have worked part-time for the past 10 years.  I am blessed in that my job has been flexible enough so that I can still be engaged with my children and attend their school and extracurricular events.  Because I have two teens and an intense job, though, I don't have as much time as I would like to "git 'er done!"  My home, like my life, is a work-in-progess: sometimes messy, sometimes dysfunctional, but always trying to soar to greater heights!

My reasons for starting a blog are twofold: (1) to up my "TQ" (technology quotient) and (2) to motivate myself by having a log of ideas, projects, recipes, and other things relating to making my home a comfortable, happy place for my family.  In my world, time is more precious than money, and I can't always make it myself or do it myself.  We tackle the projects we can handle and the others have to wait until funds allow us to hire someone.

My blog is named "Blest Nest" because it reminds me to thank God for His provision of home and family.  We were one of thousands of families that was uprooted after Hurricane Katrina.  That experience reminded me that stuff isn't what is important, the people in my life and my relationships with them (and my Savior, Jesus Christ) is.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)
